Surprise Me ! Black Cats are not less adoption in Melbourne, Australia !

Yep ! You heard it right !

Black Cats are not less adoption in Melbourne, Australia !
Hooray for Black Cats  !!!

Me and mom always look around my area, and we notice, we have so many black cats and Tuxedo cats. It made us wonder...Are black cats are really less adoption here ? so I asked my shelter, Ingrid's Haven

What type of cat got adopted least in Melbourne, Australia ?

Here.. is her answered

" White cats and long haired cats are less likely to go and Most Aussies accept black cats. Tuxedos like yourself go because you are all so beautiful and the calicos and gingers but the most popular is the steel grey cat. "

White Cat are less likely to go ? ...Why ?

( Mr. Howl, my neigbour white cat )

The white cat look so cute and clean !
Ingrid explained more..

" Yes, but some white cats get skin cancer on their noses and ears if outside and are often deaf. White cats must be kept inside to avoid the sun and traffic. Plus they leave white cat hair behind which shows up.

I think you had a white neighbouring cat on one of your blogs some time ago, he had cancer the poor thing. The ears go all red and funny and must be amputated, the nose get a small black spot which spreads. Some cats can have part of their noses removed but not all as the operation is very invasive. "

( Mr. Howl, my neigbour white cat )

But you see ? not all of white cat have to be like this !
Look at them here !

( Click picture to enlarge , Pictures from Ingrid's Haven )

They all are gorgeous !
The human just have to keep them indoor , that's all about it !

White cats are lovely !
and They deserved a good home.

Shall we help white cats to have a good home ?

I used to have white cats, and it's true about the hair. White cat hair everywhere, especially from the short-haired cat. I was breathing white cat hair sometimes. But I loved them both.

It's true about the long hair - Teddy is only 80% white but he leaves long white hairs everywhere. And I spent three months in the shelter before mum and dad adopted me, maybe things are a bit different now, since that was nearly six years ago.

Blanche is my deaf white kitty but what she lacks in hearing she makes up in curiousity and personality and no volume control. She comes from Ingrid's haven too! She sends a blink and miaouw to you!

It's not fair to white cats in your country and it's not fair to black cats in our country. Geeeesh - the oomans don't know what they are missing out on.

Our human doesn't care about our colour or length of fur cause we make the decisions. We adopted our human! Just like you did, Puddy! Hehehe!
We purr for all to find forever loving homes worldwide.

That's very interesting, Mr. Puddy. White cats are beautiful and should be adopted just like any other cat!!

Our Mom likes white animals...Whisky, Bernie, Meow-me and Felix are white...she didn't do it on purpose, though. It just happened that way. We hope those beautiful white cats available for adoption get a good indoor home soon.

My human never thinks about the hair all over everything... and if you ever saw her or her house, it would be obvious!

Of course I think all kitties are awesome and should have homes.

Our mommy has white hair on everything and she doesn't mind! We're glad that black kitties are so loved in Australia and we hope people start adopting more white kitties too and just keep them inside! Thanks for this info Mr. Puddy!

We have an all white cat (our second) and an all black cat, they are brother & sister, and half Persian. Its true about the hair, but you just have to expect it! There's a lot of black hair around too. All our cats are indoor cats because our area is not safe outside.

We think ALL cats are the best cats!!

Rumblemum has to put sunscreen on my ears and nose before she lets me out on the deck in my Kritter Kondo. I hate it, but I LOVE the outside!

And people think long haired cats are hard to look after but I look after myself and dont let Vicki or Paul brush me AT ALL!!! I hardly every have knots....

Okay sounds like all the countries have to talk to each other and realise that there's nothing wrong with black cats... and there's nothing wrong with white cats - they're all gorgeous and loveable and will make awesome pets! And I'm confused about the cat hair... surely BLACK cat hair shows up on white stuff, and WHITE cat hair shows up on black stuff. There is no difference. Just get a lint roller humans and stop being weird!! =^..^=

We think every cat in every colour is absolutely gorgous. Mummy says that no outfit is complete without a cat hair on it. She says she loves to find one on her outfit and tells her colleague that she has me or Simba with her at work today :)xx

Aren't humans strange!! You and I, Mr P, have best of both worlds as we are black AND white :)

You are scaring me, Mr Puddy! I have a white cat since two years, he came out from nowhere in our parking space in front of the house, and of course he didn't belong to aby of our neighhours... I thought it was a female, and even feared it whas pregnant, but after having tamed it, it appeared to be a boy. He lived happily in our house, together with the other cats and our dog, but last year my brother broke his hip and had to stay in hospital during three weeks. We took his woofie (half Jack Russel, half Chihuaha) in house, and... our Tullah (named so because of "My Greek Marriage", as we thought it was a lady), went outside (we have a catflap)and never wanted to come back inside... I can stroke him, take him in my arms, he purrs, I took him inside many times, as long as he is on my lap he purrs, but flees as soon as I move... He sleeps in the garage, we are taking care of him, but I didn't know he could get skin cancer, this is really scaring me, because I love him and don't want him to be ill and to suffer. And he has a little black spot on his nose, I found it so charming... :-(

We still have my brother's dog, because he needs to run a lot, but my brother can hardly walk... He's part of our family now, he gives us so much love...

That is interesting about the white cats but it is probably so true. That is so nice of you Puddy to post about these white cats. We sure will Tweet and Facebook about it. Like Brian says, you never know who might see it. Take care. Those are such good pictures of you Puddy.

We knew that white cats (and woofies) are more susceptible to skin cancer, but we would never let that stop us from getting one.

Oh Puddy, I didn't know that. And where you live, the sun is especially strong. I am kept indoors all of the time so to me, that is an easy solution.

Awwww all cats are purrfectly gorgeous and beautiful and just because some need more care and help than others shouldn't make them less attractive. It's so so so sad to read that people are less likely to adopt cats who may get more ill or disabled because of what they are. Me and Charlie say cats adopt people and never the other way round anyway and these kitties who get left behind are meant for very special people only! :-)

It;s like how you adopted your family Mr Puddy!! :-)

Take care
x

We had a white cat a long time ago and she was beautiful. Very interesting post, Puddy, I had no idea about the white cats and how they could get sick like that.

Hope all black and white cats get good homes because we love them. So what if they leave white fur? I think it's angel hair!

We like to learn new things, thank-you. Even cats who aren't all white but have white ears like Odin, need to stay out of the sun. Steel gray like our Gris Gris is the most popular in AU? He is please.

White cats and black cats are beautiful! It is not the color of the furs that is important. Thanks for educating us, Mr. Puddy!

Puddy thank you for this valuable information! My Mom said she never knew that white cats were less adoptable in Australia and she is happy that you posted the reasons why.

What I am HAPPIEST about is that STEEL GRAY CATS LIKE ME are the MOST POPULAR!! They sure aren't in the U.S.!!!

Mum used to have a grey and white cat who had white ears - the vet said to put high factor sun cream on them and she never got burned - she was almost 20 when she died. As long as you are careful we think it can be mostly avoided. Of course we do have to say the UK is not the sun hotspot in the world

Aw, Mr. Puddy, we are sad to hear that white kitties face the same problems as black ones do here. It's just not fair. You are right, the simplest solution is to just keep them inside! :)

Every time you say Mr. Howl my mom thinks of Mr. Howl's Moving Castle from Studio Ghibli. It's one of their favorites!

We didn't know that white cats are so susceptible to the eveel 'C' word! That's horrible! If we ever had a all white kitteh we would sure keep it inside away from too much Mr. Sun.

Steel Grey cats huh? Well, there ya go. That Woman said that if she went into your shelter and saw all the Mr. Puddy look alikes she'd be arrested for being a hoarder. MOL!

Fascinating post Puddy. It is so interesting that it is opposite in Australia with white cats taking longer to find homes compared to black cats. It is excellent that you brought awareness to this. We love white and black cats, well all cats really...especially those gray cats!

interesting! this definitely doesn't seem to be the case at the RSPCA shelter that i volunteer at here in Brisbane. black cats and brown tabbies are around the longest and white cats go really quickly! i always feel sorry for the black cats.... i wish i could take them all home. :( tuxedos, like yourself, go a little quicker, though.

thanks for sharing!
